Warhammer Contribution System Exposed

November 26, 2008 Category: Articles0 Comments

It appears a lot of us have been misled with the contribution system in Warhammer Online. A few bloggers like Wizards & Wenches and a few others are frustrated with the recent topics on Warhammer Alliance and VN Boards, which give us some insight in how does contribution actually works.

Once considered a great feature which was certainly better than the solutions found in other MMO games, today it’s revealed as a system based on luck and random numbers.

At one point, a player joined the warband in the last few seconds of the lord fight and just managed to get into the area of influence. He did nothing and came 3rd. As the warband obviously did enough to class him as having done something, he counted as having contributed. We told him to do nothing special the next keep, and sure enough, he came 3rd before the roll.

Whenever you zone in, or log into a zone, you will make a hidden roll. Lets say i roll a 1000, i can go to a keep, do absolutely nothing, maybe hit the hero ONE (1) time and I will get 1st on contribution. The same thing will happen with the 2nd keep in that zone, and the 3th keep etc.. as long as you don’t log or zone out. If you do, you will make the hidden roll again and it will remain as long as you’re in the region. It’s quite frustrating to know that no matter how hard you try, you can be beaten by players who contributed nearly nothing.

Warhammer Online: Armor Sets

October 29, 2008 Category: Articles0 Comments

Did you know that there are a total of 19 sets of armor available for each career? These armor sets can be found throughout the Warhammer world, and at higher levels can be incredibly helpful (if not imperative) for certain encounters. For example, the highest end sets feature special resistances called Wards. On these high end sets, there are five pieces of armor which grant a 10% reduction in damage per piece when worn in specific endgame encounters, for a possible cumulative of around 50% reduction. With these set pieces, players can emerge victorious from what would otherwise be much more difficult battles. The five pieces of armor in these high end sets which feature the Wards are: chest, boots, gloves, helmet and shoulders. Please note: images are a random sampling of certain armor sets. All sets are available for all careers.

Lesser Ward
Bloodlord Armor Set
Found in: Bastion Stair
Requirements: Ranks: Ranks 37-39

Annihilator Armor Set
Found in: Tier 4 RvR
Requirements: Ranks: Ranks 35-39 and Renown Ranks 31-35

Both sets can be used in any combination to offer the Lesser Ward, which is required for City High Level Dungeons and Fortress encounters. There are five pieces of armor in each set.

Conqueror Armor Set
Found in: Fortresses

Superior Ward
Darkpromise Armor Set
Found in: Lost Vale
Requirements: Rank 40

Invader Armor Set
Found in: Invasion PQs

Excelsior Ward
Warlord Armor Set
Found in: Sub-Boss PQs (in cities while contested)
Requirements: Rank 40 and Renown Ranks 64-70

The Sub-Boss PQs are the only means of acquiring the Excelsior Ward which is required for the King Fights. The Excelsior Ward includes the effects of all previous armor sets. There are seven pieces of armor in this set.

Supreme Ward

One of Warhammer’s cut classes won’t be coming back

October 29, 2008 Category: Articles, Miscellaneous, Trailer0 Comments

Eurogamer notes, from an interview they did with Mythic’s Mark Jacobs last week, a reality that may frustrate Orc and Dwarf fans: one of the two remaining ‘cut’ classes will not be returning to Warhammer Online. In the interview, Jacobs is up front about the reality that either the Dwarf Hammerer or Orc Chopper will not be returning to the game. As he put it, “well, one of them we hope to put back in. I can’t tell you which yet, that’s a surprise. We’re probably going to be replacing one and putting in another class in its place. But we’ll be talking about that in a few months.”

I’m guessing that they’re replacing Hammerer which is a Melee DPS class to a caster class, since Order faction only has one caster brightwizard while Destruction has two of them which are Sorcerer and Magus at the moment.

This follows closely on the heels of his announcement last week that the Knights of the Blazing Sun and Black Guard will make a triumphant return to the game in the month of December. The Knight and Guard are tanking classes, and the news of their return is great news indeed. The Hammerer and Chopper are DPS classes for their specific factions. We couldn’t get much in the way of information on them for our ‘every class explained’ guide, but this is what Adam and Josh had to say about them: “The general class role is that of the momentum berserker-brawler.
They build up fury, bounce from target to target, destroying all in their paths.”

WAR Realm Population Bonuses

October 20, 2008 Category: Articles0 Comments

Mythic Entertainment announced their latest list of Warhammer Online servers to receive realm population bonuses this week. Not surprisingly, five of the seven (Core) servers listed bonuses for playing Order side.

Mythic stated: “Great rewards await those who take up their charge and help bolster their army’s strengths where it’s needed the most… these bonuses are temporary boosts to help new players get into the game and strengthen their allies’ efforts on servers where their realm struggles to keep up with the growing armies of their enemy. For one week, these chosen servers will bestow divine gifts upon the designated realm to help swell their ranks and give them the power to try and turn the tides of battle. Players who join the vanguard will receive a 20% bonus to renown and experience.” The list of servers that give these bonuses is found in-game at the Server Select screen; the currently listed bonuses will expire on October 24th.

Warhammer Online: Trophies

October 13, 2008 Category: Articles0 Comments

In most MMOs, once you’ve decided on the armor you’re going to wear, you’ve pretty much exhausted all the options for your avatar’s look. The idea behind trophies is to create an additional level of visual customization for your character. For example, let’s say you kill a badass dragon. Some MMOs will make sure the dragon drops some great loot (we’ll do that, too). In WAR, if you kill the dragon, they’ll give you a trophy you can wear that shows you killed the dragon!

When the concept of trophies was originally pitched to them, everyone was very excited about the idea. Being able to attach objects to your avatar to show off all the awesome things that you’ve done. How cool is that? You can drag a trophy onto a trophy slot, and cycle that trophy through all the available positions on your avatar’s body. You can do this for up to five trophies. If you remove a piece of armor and replace it with another, the trophy stays equipped and you have a new look.

Take a sneak peek into one of EA Mythic’s internal team presentations, as items strike team lead Justin Webb gives an overview of Warhammer Online’s Trophy System.
